The project, which won second place in the competition for the design of the visitor center in Barkan, was born out of a connection to the land and the place. The structure is based on terraces that characterize the historical and even current agriculture of Samaria. The terraces invite visitors to wander and discover the space step by step.

PUBLIC BUILDINGS

The design emphasizes the way in which the structure and content of the visitor center correspond with each other using games between outside and inside. The green balcony is a central motif in the project. The balcony accompanies the visitor and creates transitions between outside and inside throughout the experience of visiting the center. The planning of the visitor center works as a physical expression of the ideas and ideologies of the place – a connection between man and the land and the country and a connection between man and his origins and history. Visitors are invited to physically and mentally wander the space.
